Dear Mamacita

a letter from me to you, but it’s honestly from all of us because we all feel the same

Some people walk into your life and leave an impression. But when you meet Mamacita, you see that she stomps in, lights up the room, and transforms everything around her.

From the moment we met in the summer of 2017 at that tequila-filled pool party, I knew you were special. You had questions about the gym and doubts about whether you’d fit in at your age. But you took a leap of faith, and I promised we’d all help you. Little did I know, you’d end up helping us more than we ever imagined.

For nearly eight years, you’ve been the heartbeat of EMPOWERHOUSE Gym. You’ve shown up—early mornings, tired days, good times, and hard times. You’ve worked harder than anyone, not just in the gym but in life. You’ve overcome every challenge life threw at you: crossing borders, raising children, earning your citizenship, learning to speak a new language, surviving cancer. You’ve proven that no matter where you come from or what you’ve faced, you can rise stronger than ever.

I know you sometimes question your English, but let me remind you, Mamacita—you speak two languages, and that makes you amazing. Your English has always been perfect to us because every word you speak is filled with love, courage, and wisdom. Besides, your actions have always spoken louder than your words. You’ve lifted weights and spirits, danced through life and workouts, and reminded all of us what it means to take up space unapologetically.

We know your birthday is in October because every year you remind us to start drinking tequila early.

Any questions? “No questions.”

You never miss an opportunity for a picture of a sunrise or a bright moon.

A committed 6AM’er. You’re our gym mama. You’ve impacted all of us in meaningful ways, and we all have a Mamacita story. You’ve welcomed every new face with open arms, encouraged us to lift heavier, and celebrated everyone’s victories like they were your own. The Mamacita Award exists because there’s no one quite like you. And for me, personally, you’ve been more than a friend—you’ve been a mother figure. You’ve supported me in ways no one else could, both emotionally and behind the scenes. Te amo.

As you prepare to return to Mexico and retire to the home you’ve loved for so long, it’s bittersweet for this entire community. We’re so proud of you, but it’s hard to imagine this space without your laughter, dance moves, and bright light. Please don’t leave! Kidding. Sort of.

Mamacita, you are more than an inspiration here—you are a legacy. EMPOWERHOUSE Gym will always have a part of you in its soul. Thank you for trusting me, for loving all of us here at the HOUSE, and for showing us how to live with strength and joy.

Te amamos, Mamacita. Eres nuestra inspiración y nuestra familia para siempre.

Love,

Coach Fowler & all of your EMPOWERHOUSE Gym family
